In May 2025, the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) rolled out major updates aimed at helping more families in a smoother, faster, and more secure way. If you’re already a part of BISP or planning to join, these updates are important to understand. The government is using new tools and systems to make sure every deserving person gets their rightful support on time.
The highlight of this month’s update is the shift from old payment methods to more modern and safer ways to receive money. Beneficiaries no longer have to wait in long lines or deal with middlemen. With new technology in place, getting your payment has become a lot easier.
Let’s walk through the biggest updates BISP has made this May.
Direct Transfers to Bank and Mobile Wallets
One of the biggest improvements is that payments are now being sent straight to bank accounts. If you’re a BISP beneficiary, you no longer need to visit a specific center or wait for a cash handout. Instead, the money will appear directly in your account.
Don’t have a bank account? No worries. BISP now allows you to link a mobile wallet like JazzCash or EasyPaisa. This is a game-changer for people living in rural areas or those who don’t have access to banks. You can now receive, withdraw, or even save your payments directly from your mobile.
Just make sure your mobile number is registered with BISP, and that it’s the same number tied to your CNIC. This ensures that payments reach the right person.
Real-Time Alerts via 8171 SMS
To make the process more transparent, BISP is actively sending alerts to beneficiaries through the official 8171 SMS service. Whenever there’s a new payment or update to your profile, you’ll get a message directly to your registered phone.
This small feature adds a big layer of trust. You’ll always know when your money is ready, and you won’t need to guess or visit offices unnecessarily.
New Districts Included in Phase 2
Phase 2 of the BISP payment plan began in April and is continuing through May 2025. This expansion includes several major cities and remote areas that were not part of earlier disbursement rounds.
Here’s a list of some areas where payments are now being released:
-
Major Cities: Karachi (all zones), Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Multan, Hyderabad
-
Remote Areas: Khairpur, Gwadar, Loralai, Muzaffarabad, Gilgit, and more
If you live in one of these regions, your payment might already be in process. Make sure to check your status through the official channels.

Who Can Get BISP Payments in 2025?
BISP has slightly tweaked its eligibility rules to make sure the money goes to the people who need it most.
You can qualify if:
-
You’re already part of the National Socio-Economic Registry (NSER)
-
You’re a widow, divorced, or differently-abled person
-
Your household has no or very little income
-
You were identified through the latest dynamic survey
A key update this year is related to families where a man has more than one wife. As per the new rule, only one wife—usually the one with more children—will continue to receive the benefit. This change aims to prevent misuse of funds and ensure the money supports larger, more vulnerable households.
Easy Steps to Check Your Payment
Worried about whether your money has arrived or not? Here’s how you can easily check your payment status:
-
Look for an SMS: The first place to check is your phone. If you’ve received a message from 8171, it means there’s an update.
-
Use the 8171 Web Portal: Go to the official BISP website and open the 8171 portal.
-
Enter Your CNIC: Carefully type your CNIC number (without spaces).
-
View the Status: The portal will show whether your payment has been issued or if you’re still in the queue.
This system is quick, safe, and saves you from unnecessary trips to the BISP office.
