Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif chaired the first official meeting of the Punjab Enforcement and Regulatory Authority (PERA). The historic meeting was focused on laying the foundation for the newly established authority and ensuring that its operations are aligned with principles of transparency and efficiency.
Discussion in the session involved the recruitment policy, rules and regulations, constitution of various committees, and authority’s procurement plan. All of these critical steps are aimed at streamlining PERA’s functionality to enable it to serve its mandate effectively.
Madam Chief Minister said the recruitment process had to be strictly merit-based to ensure that the best of talents were selected for the job. She also ordered the participants to maintain maximum transparency in the processes of the authority, while reiterating that public trust and integrity continue to be at the core of the objectives of PERA.
PERA’s formation symbolizes the intent of the provincial government toward enhanced governance and regulation mechanisms. Having set a road map for PERA through this very first session, it can really do something constructive for the regulation and effective governance of Punjab.
This marks the starting point of a very different kind of journey, wherein proper systems for effective enforcement and regulation shall ensure betterment of the province and its citizens.
